PURPOSE:To prevent a basic sheet material from generating a strong tension therein and cutting in a drier and reduce the loss of resin and the base material by a method wherein a tension detector for the base material is provided on the top of the drier while the opening and closing of a coating roll are effected in conjunction with the detection of the detector so that the tension of the material does not exceed a predetermined tension. CONSTITUTION:Solvent in a base material is evaporated in a drier 4, thereafter, the base material is guided to a tension detector 5 through rolls, then, is carried vertically downward into the drier again to cure the resin therein. In this case, a tension is necessitated for the base material in order to prevent it from generating unpreferable dropings, wrinkles or wavinesses which are generated in the drier while a tension is impressed on the base material since the passing resistance of the base material is increased as a distance between coating rolls is narrowed. Accordingly, the tension of the base material is measured at all times by a tension detector 5 and when the tension has exceeded a predetermined upper limit value by the sudden increase of the passing resistance of the base material due to the adhesion of dust, foreign substance or the like to the coating roll, the opening and closing device 6 of the coating roll is opened in conjunction with the detection whereby the tension of the base material is reduced and the breakage thereof maybe prevented.
