PURPOSE:To improve the continuity and the maintenance property of a program or a system by providing a pair of station abnormality monitor mechanisms on a host system and a station, and monitoring an abnormality at the time of an input and an output of a work station. CONSTITUTION:An input/output control mechanism 1 receives input/output instructions to a work station (WS) B, from a user program or a system program and sends them to a station abnormality monitor mechanism 2. The station abnormality monitor mechanism 2 receives input/output requests from the input/ output control mechanism 1 and sends them to the SWB through a communication control mechanism 3. In case the result of an input and an output is not obtained within a prescribed time, a WS state notice request is issued to the WSB, and in case a response against it cannot be obtained within a prescribed time T2 which is measured by a time device 4, or an obtained result has shown an abnormality of the WS, a WS error is returned to the input/output control mechanism 1.
