PURPOSE:To utilize the contents of a provisional dictionary area at the time of editing such as a correction, an addition, etc. of a document, by recording a provisional dictionary in the same document file together with a header of the document and the document, when recording the document in a floppy disk device. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 10 creates and allocates a document file to a floppy disk 47, and in case its allocation cannot be executed, an error message is displayed and the retention is halted. In case the allocation has been executed, a header part is generated by transferring a document name inputted by a user, to a header use buffer in a RAM 20, and a provisional dictionary is generated by transferring a provisional dictionary generated by the user, to a provisional dictionary buffer in the RAM 20. Also, the contents of the header use buffer, the provisional dictionary use buffer, and the document use buffer, in a RAM 20 are written in the document file of the floppy disk 47, and in case the retention of the file has been executed, the retention is ended by deallocating the document file.
