PURPOSE:To reduce the leak current of a thin-film transistor (TR) by shielding the part of the thin-film TR of a liquid crystal panel from light. CONSTITUTION:Liquid crystal 14 is changed between a quarts glass substrate 12 and a glass substrate 13. A picture element electrodes 18 of an ITO film thin-film TRs 17, gate lines 15, and source lines 16 are formed on the quartz glass substrate 11. A light shield layer 19 which is printed or dyed and a common electrode 20 of an ITO film are formed on the glass substrate 12. A gate electrode 13 is selected successively in the order of 15-1, 15-2-15-N and thin film TRs 17 connected to the selected gate electrodes 15 are turned on.
