摘要 PURPOSE:To avert a chemical damage and to decrease a loss by making an ion exchange treatment in a phosphoric acid kept at 150-280 deg.C, executing the confinement of light in a thickness direction in a thin film-like refractive index increasing part formed by an ion exchangemethod and using a charge type optical waveguide structure to confine the light in a transverse direction. CONSTITUTION:The surface of an LiNbO3 substrate is treated in the phosphoric acid (H3PO4) kept at 230 deg.C for 9min to form the thin film-like refractive index increasing part 5. The charge part 6 consisting of SiO2 is formed atop the same to 2.0mum transverse width and 0.5mum thickness by an electron beam vapor deposition method. Light is mainly confined and propagated in the thin film-like refractive index increasing part 5 under the charge part 6. The transmission loss of semiconductor laser light 3 is thereby fairly decreased to 0.5-1 dB/cm and the optical wavelength conversion efficiency is improved by 30-50%.
