A mechanism for feeding fish involves a feed container (1) attached to a control unit (6), which at regular intervals controlled by the control unit, is opened in order to release a feed portion into the water in which said fish are present. In the area below the feed container (1), a sensor (7) is present which detects how much feed passes the fish without being eaten, and on indication of this, emits a signal to the control unit (6) to close the container (1) and thus terminate feeding. In this way, feeding comes to be dictated by the fishes appetite during each particular feeding.
