PURPOSE:To obtain the stamping apparatus capable of clearly automatically stamping each character, by a method wherein the titled stamping apparatus consists of the stamping wheel to which a plurality of tokens are radially attached, the first gear rotating in one body therewith, the rack fixed to a guide block, the pinion engaged with the rack, and the second gear rotating in one body with the pinion and being engaged with the first gear. CONSTITUTION:To stamp a line of characters longitudinally on a round steel W, at first the round steel is laid on a support stand 36. A lift table 2 is lowered in this state with a going up and down pressurizer 5 and the token 20 of the first character of a stamping wheel is pressed on the round steel W. When a sidewise going stand 10 is driven by tension in the arrow X direction with a sidewise driver 11 thereafter, the stamping wheel 15 is rotated being pressed onto the round steel W and the character of each token 20 is successively stamped on the round steel W. The pinion 31 engaged with the rack 34 rotates and the rotation is transmitted to the stamping wheel 15 via the second gear 32 and the first gear 30. The stamping wheel 15 is certainly rotated on the round steel W in a state of non-slippage. Further, because the stamping wheel 5 is always pressed downward with the going up and down pressurizer 5, the stamping wheel 5 goes up and down along the uneveness on the round steel W to provide the clear stamping.
