PROCESS FOR PREPARING AN N-SUBSTITUTED CARBOMOYL-LACTAM COMPOUND

The process comprises reactively admixing a polyhydroxy cpd. of for mula (II) R(OH)n with a polyisocyanate of formula (III) OCN-R'-NCO, and reacting the prod. with a lactam to give the title cpd. (I). In the formula n is 3 or more; R is an at least 3-functional polyhydroxy cpd. ; R' is C6-25 (ar) alkyl or (alk)aryl; and Y is C3-14 alkylene. The novel cpd. is used as an activator with a polymerisation catalyst in the prepn. of a nylon block copolymer from a lactam.
