A germinating apparatus for germinating plant material includes an enclosure within which is means for supporting a plurality of spaced stacks of seed bed trays, transport means for transporting said stacks along a closed path within said enclosure, at least one liquid supply station located on said closed path for supplying a spray of liquid to a passing said stack and control means for automatically controlling the supply of liquid at a said liquid supply station and for controlling transport of said stacks along said path. Each of said stacks of trays charged with dry seed is successively sprayed with liquid at a said liquid supply station to germinate the seed, and then transported along said closed path and successively supplied with liquid as necessary, the rate of transport being such that the plant material germinates and grows to a desired extent by the time a said stack has completed one or more circuits of said path, means being provided for exchanging stacks containing sprouted plant material with further said stacks of trays charged with dry seed. <IMAGE> |
