The oxygen supply from an oxygen supply line (1) to a consumer's line (3) is controlled by a three-way/two-way valve (2). A diaphragm box (4) is connected to the consumer's line (3) via a branch line (6). A switch (5) translates mechanical changes of the path of the diaphragm in the diaphragm box (4) into electrical signals which control the valve (2) via control electronics (8). The oxygen supply can be adapted to the inhalation/exhalation cycle of the patient, it being possible to minimise the oxygen consumption while at the same time keeping the oxygen supply required by a patient at an optimum level at all times. <IMAGE>
