PURPOSE:To prolong the stagnation time of exhaust gases and improve purifying efficiency by providing at the passage center of a catalyst casing an exhaust gas guide member having a recess at a downstream side and forming a bent member at the downstream side of the guide member. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst casing 1 has an inlet 2 and an outlet 3 at both ends thereof and said inlet and outlet 2 and 3 are continuous to each other via a passage 4. Also, a housing 6 for an catalyst element 7 is formed in the upstream of an exhaust gas flow direction. In the aforesaid constitution, a guide member 8 for exhaust gases is provided at the intermediate part of the catalyst casing 1 and supported at the center of the passage 4 with a support piece 9. The guide member 8 is sharpened at the tip 8a thereof and a recess 10 open in a cup shape and having a convex part at the center thereof is formed at the downstream side. Also, at the downstream side of the guide member 8, there is a bent member 11 having a diameter 'D' less than the diameter 'C' of the recess 10 and the side 11a thereof is formed to have curvature.
