PURPOSE:To set theoretically the capacitance of a transmission system by obtaining the total sum of message quantity flowing to the transmission system connected with plural nodes by a prescribed logic operation in compliance with the condition of the transmission system and deciding the capacity of the transmission system according to the total sum. CONSTITUTION:In forming a LAN as the communication system and adopting the packet exchange system, the total sum of the message quantity flowing to the transmission system connected with plural nodes is obtained according to the following logic equation; total message quantity = average message length (packet number/message) X average packet length (bit/packet) X message generation rate (message/sec node) X number of nodes (nodes), where as to the estimate of the average packet length a real data period T1 of a packet is not used but bit quantity to be sent during a period T2 from the detection (ON) of carrier based on the packet transmission till the end (OFF) is used as the packet length.
