PURPOSE:To save memory capacity and to increase the speed in image regenerating processing, by successively performing the scroll display of the line image data corresponding to the center line in the synthetic aperture range stored in an image memory. CONSTITUTION:Objective matter is irradiated with ultrasonic wave or electromagnetic wave beam and the echo from the objective matter is received to be converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter 13. The digital signal is successively stored in a waveform memory 22 by one line at every one scanning point. In storing this data, the data already stored in the memory 22 is shifted by an amount equivalent to one line as a whole. Then, the digital value in the memory 22 corresponding to one phase history line is simultaneously read according to the address information from phase history line table 18 to be added in an adding part 24 to obtain data of one picture element. This operation is successively repeated to obtain the data of the line image corresponding to the center line in a synthetic aperture range. Subsequently, the line image data at every synthetic aperture range is displayed on an image display part 19 while scrolled to perform the imaging of the objective matter.
