PURPOSE:To utilize widely the titled unit as one of arithmetic units of an optical computer by providing the titled unit with the 1st optical arithmetic unit for outputting a luminescent point group having binarized optical intensity and the 2nd optical arithmetic unit for outputting a luminescent point group having optical intensity corresponding to differences among the optical intensity values of individual luminescent points of the sequentially inputted luminescent point groups. CONSTITUTION:Space light modulation tubes 21, 22 form the 1st and 2nd optical arithmetic units respectively, CYt and At+Bt+CYt are stored in the tubes 21, 22 respectively. Provided that At and Bt are numerical values to be added by using n as a divisor, CYt means a carry and (t) means the subscript of the t-th digit. When a subtracting function is used, the output light 26 of the tube 22 can obtain the optical intensity of At+Bt+CYt-1-2.CYt. Since an analyzer 31 is arranged in a cross Nicol state against a polarizing plate 29, output light 26 can be converted into an electric signal by a light receiving element array 28 and the numerical value information of the added result can be obtained.
