PURPOSE:To prevent an abrasion-resistant layer from crystallizing, by forming the abrasion-resistant layer (provided as a protective layer) from both a Ta oxide and an Si oxide. CONSTITUTION:A protective film for a thermal printing head, which comprises heat generating resistors provided on an insulating substrate and electrical conductors for supplying electric power to the resistors, comprises an oxidation- resisting layer and an abrasion-resistant layer, which comprises oxides of Ta and Si. Namely, the abrasion-resistant layer comprises 30-90mol% of the Ta component and 10-70mol% of the Si component. With the Ta oxide mixed with the Si oxide, the Ta oxide is prevented from crystallizing, so that crystal growth does not proceed even when the head is exposed to a high temperature of about 600 deg.C. |
