The hinged fitting has two hinged parts which can be moved towards each other and are connected to each other via a swivel pin. In this arrangement, there is provided an adjusting and fixing device which determines the position of the two hinged parts with respect to each other, is designed as a gear mechanism with at least one pair of gear wheels and has an eccentric which is arranged on the swivel pin and can rotate with it. Connected between the swivel pin and the driving element which turns the latter is a securing device which fixes the set position of the backrest. To provide a completely operationally reliable device for retaining the set position of the backrest inclination, the securing device has a locking disc which is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to one hinged part and to which at the commencement of an adjusting movement of the driving wheel at least one locking slide, which can be controlled by the latter and is arranged in a guide body fixedly connected to the swivel pin, can be connected in a positive manner.
