In a spinning preparation machine, especially a drafting frame, there are provided a method and an apparatus for the flying change of spinning cans, in which method the moment of severance of the fibre sliver delivered further continuously is coordinated with the outward movement of the full spinning can in such a way that the fibre sliver is severed in the region of a sliver loop which is located completely outside the full spinning can.
