The subject of the invention is an artificial block, particularly for a shell for protecting sea or river works, made of cast concrete, characterised in that it comprises two parallel plane bases 1, 2 which are polygonal, homothetic and offset angularly with respect to each other, the homologous sides of the said bases being joined by fixed three-dimensional curves, the coefficient of homothetic transformation being chosen so that the block remains inscribed in a right prism having the larger of the said bases as a base.
