PURPOSE:To improve the reproducing efficiency and the recording characteristic by using a magnetic head in combination with a medium having a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy so as to improve the magnetic field strength in the perpendicular direction in the recorded magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:A gap of a ring type head is made of a nonmagnetic conductive material and the head is used in combination with a magnetic recording medium having the perpendicular anisotropy. In the recording medium having the magnetic anisotropy, a medium with higher coercive force or a thicker film than that of a conventional medium, resulting that the effect of the self-degaussing and recording degaussing operation is relaxed in the vertical recording system. Thus, the residual magnetization of the recording medium is improved resulting in improving the S/N resolution. The reproducing efficiency due to the electromagnetic shield effect for the gap is expected to be improved similarly as the case with the longitudinal recording system. |
