PURPOSE:To produce dispersed crystalline platinum particles having a narrow particle size distribution when an aqueous soln. of chloroplatinic acid is reduced to produce platinum particles, by reducing the soln. at a specified reaction temp. with a reducing gas under a specified partial pressure. CONSTITUTION:When an aqueous soln. of chloroplatinic acid is reduced to produce platinum particles, the soln. is reduced at high temp. and pressure by introducing a reducing gas to form platinum particles. The reaction temp. is regulated to 150-250 deg.C and the reducing gas is kept under 0.1-12kg/cm<2> partial pressure. Gaseous H2, CO or SO2 is used as the reducing gas.
