INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH LARGE FUEL TOLERANCE

The main combustion chamber (3) and an auxiliary separate chamber (6) are connected through a channel (4). A spark ignition system (5) is provided in the separate chamber and the connecting channel between the chambers is opened or closed by a valve to alter the Valve timing. The fuel charge of the main chamber is inkected early in the cycle into combustion gases remaining from a previous cycle. Compression in the main chamber is limited by the closing of the control valve (11) at a selected moment in the stroke. The fuel-air mixture of the separate chamber is spark ignited and the consequent gas pressure opens the valve. The fuel charge of the main chamber is injected into burning gases from the separate chamber. A second discharge of hot gases occurs in the expansion stroke.
