PURPOSE:To make it possible to prevent an electrode wire from breaking and enhance machining speed of electric discharge machining by employing the electrode wire having an alloy composition of a certain range weight percent of zinc, tin and aluminum and the rest of copper and inevitable impurities. CONSTITUTION:A material having an alloy composition of 30-40wt% of zinc, 0.6-2.0wt% of tin, 0.05-0.2wt% of aluminum and the rest of copper and inevitable impurities is hot processed to make a roughly drawn wire and is made into an electrode wire by repeating wire drawing and annealing. With the above process, the speed of electric discharge machining is considerably increased, breakage of the electrode wire during the electric discharge machining is drastically reduced, contributing greatly to the improvement of the productivity of the electric discharge machining and the qualitative stability of an object to be machined compared with conventional electrode wires.
