PRODUCTION OF METHACRYLATE RESIN COMPOSITION

PURPOSE:To obtain the title resin composition excellent in transparency, weathering resistance, etc., by adding an alkyl methacrylate containing a chain transfer agent to an emulsion containing a specified crosslinked acrylate elastomer and emulsion-polymerizing the resulting mixture. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of 60-100wt% alkyl acrylate having a 1-8C alkyl group and 40-0wt% alkyl methacylate having a 1-4C alkyl group is emulsion- polymerized in the presence of 0.1-20wt% polyfunctional monomer having a plurality of nonconjugated double bonds. The obtained emulsion containing 10-50pts.wt. crosslinked acrylate elastomer is mixed with 90-50pts.wt. mixture formed by adding 0.01-10wt% chain transfer agent to a mixture of 60-100wt% alkyl methacrylate with 40-0wt% alkyl acrylate. The resulting mixture is emulsion-polymerized so that the composition of the graft portion and that of the matrix portion may be uniform. In this way, the title resin composition can be obtained.
