<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the uniform homogeneous orientation of liquid crystal molecules by rubbing at least one oriented film in a specific direction. CONSTITUTION:Oriented films 23 formed of polyimide, etc., are formed on the opposite surfaces of two glass substrates 21 and ferroelectric liquid crystal is injected into a cell formed by using a spacer 24. Then, the upper film 23 is rubbed in a direction 25 and the lower film 23 is rubbed in directions 26 and 27. In this case, the angle 28 between the directions 26 and 27 is double as large as the tilt angle of the injected liquid crystal. Consequently, the uniform homogeneous orientation is obtained without any growing process of a domain and orientation control is so performed as to obtain storage effect.</p> |
