PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a surge protection device (SPD) for communication that is able to display the degree of deterioration.SOLUTION: A surge protection device (SPD) 1 for communication comprises: a protection part 20 that operates when a lightning surge is applied to external line side SPD terminals l1, l2 and discharges a lightning surge current to an earth terminal E; lightning surge detection means 30 that detects the lightning surge current and outputs a detection current corresponding to this detection result; a detection current processing unit 40 that calculates the degree of deterioration of the protection part 20 on the basis of the detection current; and a display unit 50 that display the degree of deterioration. The surge detection means 30 is a small component that comprises: an SPD earth wire 34; and a detection inductor 31 that is placed in the vicinity of the SPD earth wire 34 and that detects a lightning surge current and outputs a detection current. Furthermore, the SPD 1 can be made small because the protection part 20, the lightning surge detection means 30, the detection current processing unit 40, a battery 43, and the display unit 50 are configured to be housed in a case 10. |
