PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further appropriately retrieve handwritten characters.SOLUTION: According to one embodiment, a handwritten character retrieval apparatus includes an acquisition unit, a feature extraction unit, an integration unit, a feature amount append unit, and a retrieval unit. The acquisition unit acquires a handwritten character string in units of a stroke. The feature extraction unit extracts a first feature amount unique to each of the strokes from the handwritten character string. The integration unit integrates the strokes into a plurality of sets. The feature amount append unit appends a second feature amount on the basis of the integration result to each of the strokes. The retrieval unit executes retrieval based on the first feature amount and the second feature amount. |
