PURPOSE:To provide a diamond tool excellent in adhesion so as to enhance the productivity, by covering a diamond layer on a base body made of a material selected from a group consisting of metal, alloy, hard metal compounds and ceramic materials, through the intermediary of an i-carbon layer. CONSTITUTION:A base member made of a material selected from a group consisting of metal, alloy composed of at least two kinds of metal, metallically bonded hard metal compounds and ceramic materials is covered at least on its tool acting surface with diamond layer having an averaged thickness of 0.1-40mum through the intermediary of an i-carbon layer so as to obtain a diamond tool. Accordingly, since the i-carbon layer is provided between the base body and the diamond layer and has a thermal expansion coefficient which is substantially equal to that of diamond, as a result it is possible to obtain a diamond tool excellent in adhesion to no accumulation of internal stress and high adhesion between the i-carbon layer and the base member. With this arrangement, it is possible to enhance the productivity.
