A double pipe exothermic reactor which comprises a coolant shell of a reactor, a double pipe provided within the shell, a catalyst bed packed between inner and outer tubes of the double pipe, an introduction tube connected to the inner tube through which a starting fluid is introduced, and a communication means enabling the fluid after the passage of the inner tube to be passed through the catalyst bed in a direction opposite to the direction of the passage through the inner tube, said coolant shell having an inlet and an outlet for a coolant arranged in such a way that the flow of the coolant is parallel to the flow of the fluid within said catalyst bed.
