PURPOSE:To obtain an opacifying pigment which can be readily dispersed in a dispersion medium and has excellent dispersion stability and segregation resistance, by forming on the surface of titanium dioxide pigment particles a precursor capable of producing a cured polymer, and curing this precursor. CONSTITUTION:A precursor capable of producing a cured polymer insoluble in a dispersion medium is adsorbed, precipitated or deposited on the surface of titanium dioxide pigment particles. At the same time or in succession, this precursor is cured, thus giving an objective opacifying pigment. It is important that the surfaces of titanium dioxide pigment particles be covered with a continuous film of the cured polymer of a thickness of about 0.01-0.1mum. If the thickness of the film is below the lower limit, a continuous film can hardly be formed and insufficient improvement in the physical properties of the titanium dioxide pigment will result; if it is above the upper limit, agglomeration of the pigment particles will occur so that the dispersibility of the particles into the dispersion medium will be unsatisfactory and the performance inherent in the titanium dioxide pigment will therefore be reduced.
