PURPOSE:To shorten a processing time by obtaining an area to circumscribe a geometric graphic drawn by an instruction from Y and Y coordinate data in a drawing instruction used for an image processing processor, using the coordinate value of the area and the special area, and deciding the presence and absence of the overlapping of both areas. CONSTITUTION:For a specified area coordinate value register 2, the coordinate value of a specified area is registered from an image processing, and a circumscribing area coordinate value register 3 is circumscribed a natural geometric graphic by the image processing means 1 and the coordinate value of the relative corner of a quadrilateral having the side parallel to the orthogonal coordinate system of a frame memory device 14 is registered as the circumscribing area coordinate value. When the above-mentioned registering is completed, a coordinate value comparing means 4 decides whether or not the special area and the circumscribing area overlappes, by comparing the coordinate value of the contents of both registers.
