PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous mounting by discriminating an ink ribbon by a simple structure, by making an ink ribbon cassette displaceable with respect to a recording mechanism and providing a discrimination member and a detection means. CONSTITUTION:The quantity of rotation of a cam 6 is selected to control the shaking angle of an ink ribbon cassette 1 to four stages. The terminal part of an ink ribbon 3 is detected by a window 4 and a photosensor 5 constituted of a reflecting type sensor is fixedly provided to a carriage loaded with a printing mechanism and the kind of the ribbon 3 is detected by the change of the relative position of the ink ribbon cassette 1 due to shaking. A control part 21 controls a ribbon feed motor 23 corresponding to the detection result due to the photosensor 5 and rotates the cam 6 to control the shaking angle of the ink ribbon cassette 1. By this constitution, the detection of the terminal of the ink ribbon, the presence of the ink ribbon, the discrimination of three or more kinds of ink ribbons and the automatic setting of ink ribbon feed quantity can be performed using the same sensor. |
