PURPOSE:To replace only a cathode insert by using a fixing metal which is screwed and inserted into a presser metal and a cathode section and fixes the presser metal to fix the cathode insert in the cathode section. CONSTITUTION:A presser metal 9 fixing a cathode insert 4 in a cathode section 10 and fixing metal 11 fixing this presser metal 9 are used. The selection of the cathode insert 4 is related to the discharge characteristic of a hollow cathode. Therefore, various types of the cathode inserts 4 are prepared and replaced to confirm the characteristic. Every time the cathode insert 4 is to be replaced, a gas feeder 12 and a flange 8 are separated by the release of a screw, next the fixing metal 11 screwed with a screw in the flange 8 is extracted from the flange 8, and a lead frame presser metal 9 is slid and removed from the flange 8. Then, a lead frame 5 and the cathode insert 4 are extracted and replaced with a new cathode insert 4 and inserted and fixed in the reverse order of the said procedures. Accordingly, the characteristic can be selected by the replacement of only the cathode insert 4, thus the test time can be shortened.
