PURPOSE:To provided a photochromic covering composition which rapidly develops and extinguishes a color, by using a urethane composition for forming a paint matrix, into which a photochromic organic compound is incorporated. CONSTITUTION:A photochromic organic compound such as a compound of the formula (wherein R<5> to R<17> are each H, an organic group of atoms, carboxyl, amino, nitro or halogen) is incorporated into a urethane composition which will form a paint matrix, thus giving a photochromic coverting composition. An example of a suitable urethane composition which will form paint matrix is a composition comprising at least one compound selected from an adduct of a non-yellowing diisocyanate, an isocyanurate, etc., at least one compound selected from a polyester having a plurality of hydroxyl groups in a molecule, a polyether, etc., and a curing catalyst (e.g., triethylenediamine).
