At least the first station has an echo canceller (14): simultaneous transmission by the second station takes place only during periods which immediately follow a period of transmission by the first station alone and are of short duration relative to the rate of change of the echo characteristics of the path, thereby taking advantage of the highly-trained state of the echo canceller during those periods. |
