PURPOSE:To eliminate deterioration in the read quality of an image due to a deviation in the alignment of other members by using a multi-array image sensor formed by uniting plural linear image sensors and supplying light from the same part of an original image to the respective linear image sensors in common through an anisotropic image formation optical system. CONSTITUTION:A troidal lens 13 as the anisotropic image formation optical system is arranged behind a slit 12. This troidal lens 13 is so constituted that a 1st focus position F1 in the main scanning direction X of the original image 1 and a 2nd focus position F2 in a subscanning direction Y are different from each other. Then the photodetection surface 20 of the multi-array image sensor 16 formed by uniting plural CCD linear image sensors is positioned at the position where luminous flux passed through a hole 14 forms an image in the main scanning direction through the troidal lens 13. Consequently, the deterioration in the read quality of an image due to the deviation in the alignment of the respective members is eliminated.
