PURPOSE:To use either a normal type or small type cassette without an adapter by elevating up and down a 3rd reel drive means as vertically against a cassette placing surface in moving interlocking with a 1st reel drive means. CONSTITUTION:A small cassette take-up reel base 32 is usually lifted up with a base 20a by springs 20e and 20f and other one spring in the direction of an arrow H, and then the reel base 32 is held in its position 32. This position (dotted line) is the specifically mounting position of the small cassette take-up reel. In a similar manner, a photosensor 33 for detecting the end of tape is held in its position 33 to perform the end of tape detection for a small cassette when used. When a large cassette is placed in the specific position, the reel base 32 is pressed with its bottom surface 5a to be descended in the reverse direction of H down to a position 20. In this position a transmission gear 22 is not meshed with the reel base 32, so that the reel base 32 does not rotate even when a large cassette reel base 21 is rotated. In addition, the photosensor 27 for end of tape detection does not obstruct the mounting position for large cassette at all.
