PURPOSE:To obtain a clinical thermometer that infants like by equipping a main body partially with a part which changes its shape when warmed with the bodily temperature. CONSTITUTION:Shape memory alloy 14 is incorporated in part of the clinical thermometer main body 2 and its material, size,and operating temperature are so selected that the alloy restores itself according to temperature examination time. When the thermometer is used, the alloy restores itself to its shape by being warmed with the bodily temperature to a prescribed temperature and then pushes up a rod 10 against a bias spring 13 to move a display plate 7 at one end of a crank 9, so that eyes 5 appear in openings 8 of a face 4. When the thermometer is removed, the memory alloy spring 14 falls in temperature into a soft martensite phase state and then the bias spring 13 push back the alloy, which therefore shrinks, so that the eyelids of the display plate 7 appear in the openings 8 of the face. This structure attracts infant's attention and the infant is willing to have a temperature examination.
