PURPOSE:To eliminate a pilot signal for controlling a time base by adjusting the time base by means of controlling the rotational speed of a recording disk according to an error signal corresponding to a level difference between a specified reference signal and a speed detection signal corresponding to the rotational speed of the recording disk. CONSTITUTION:At the time of a search, when a search instruction is issued, the reference signal which gradually varies from a level corresponding to the position of a signal reading means at that time to the level, corresponding to the position of a destination to be searched is generated. Then, by the error signal, corresponding to the level difference between the reference signal and the speed detection signal corresponding to the rotational speed of the recording disk, the adjustment of the time base through the control of the rotational speed of the recording disk, is performed. Thus, the time base can be favorably controlled without using the pilot signal.
