Preservation of hay and other forage is effected by treatment with a finely dispersed agent (I) capable of raising the osmotic pressure of the moisture in the forage. (I) is an aq. soln. contg. 25-50 (esp. 35) wt.% of an electrolyte, esp. CaCl2 and/or MgCl2, and opt. up to 10% of propylene glycol, glycerol or other additive for lowering the crystn. temp. of the soln.. The soln. is sprayed onto the hay just before baling. |
