The invention relates to machine tools and processing machines, the rectilinearly guided machine subassemblies of which require short longitudinal movements with high frequency. The essential feature of the invention is the axial type of construction of the entire device, as a result of which the production cost is considerably reduced. As in an axle drive, the drive motor, the clutch, the drive shaft carried on thrust bearings and having an axial curve, the transmission elements and the rectilinearly guided machine subassembly to be driven are arranged in alignment one behind the other.
