The machine comprises a cylinder containing a rotor which carries in axially extending slots a number of vanes each consisting of a selflubricating material comprising a matrix of polyamide reinforced by aramid fibres. For heavy duty operations, the vane material also contains fibres of a high modulus of elasticity, such as fibres from carbon or glass. The aramid fibres are preferably in continuous form and arranged in layers formed by weaves or the like and forming a core of each vane. The additional fibres of a high modulus of elasticity are also in continuous form and arranged in layers to form reinforcing surface layers on the vane sandwiching the aramid fibre core. The machine described is a motor for use in pneumatic power tools.
