PURPOSE:To keep the strength of a catalyst stable over a long period by supporting oxide or sulfate of iron and/or vanadium on anhydrous gypsum contg. powder of a material having micropores of <=100Angstrom diameter. CONSTITUTION:Oxide or sulfate of iron and/or vanadium is supported on anhydrous gypsum contg. powder of a material having micropores of <=100Angstrom diameter such as zeolite, silica-alumina, silica-magnesia, silica-alumina-magnesia, silica, titania-silica or activated carbon to obtain a catalyst for treating exhaust gas. The catalyst is put in an exhaust gas path, 0.5-5, preferably 1-2 times (by mol.) as much ammonia as nitrogen oxides contained in exhaust gas to be treated is added to the exhaust gas and the resulting reactive gas is brought into contact with the catalyst at about 2,000-50,000hr<-1> space velocity (SV) and 200-400 deg.C. |
