The invention relates to a method of producing metallic, wear- resistant and corrosion-resistant coatings on convexly curved surfaces of machine elements or plant components. In this method, wire coils bearing tightly against one another are placed in groove-shaped recesses of the parent body and are welded at their contact points with a welding source of high energy density, in particular with an electron, laser or plasma beam. This results in a coating which is connected to the parent material on the root of the groove structure in a positive-locking manner. The properties of this surface coating, by suitable selection of the wire alloy, can be adapted to the respective requirements with regard to wear or corrosion resistance, electrical properties or weldability with additional components. Since the welding mainly concerns the wire coils and the parent material is affected only slightly, the wire material can be selected independently of the material of the parent body.

|
