In the case of the dowels which are provided for use in the tension zone of an anchor base, axial displacement of the expansion sleeve can occur when the bore widens as a result of crack formation, said displacement leading to considerable slippage, possibly even to failure of the anchoring. In order to permit or to improve follow-up expansion of the dowel, an annular widening, in which the resilient ring is inserted, is provided in the inner bore of the expansion sleeve, at its end remote from the expansion body. Via the resilient ring, said expansion-sleeve end can be widened to a diameter which extends beyond the external diameter of the dowel and, in the bore, can be compressed to the diameter thereof.
