A method and system for acquiring an elapsed playback time of an MP3 file having a variable bit rate. The method comprises: setting N index members corresponding to N positions in an entire MP3 file having a variable bit rate, wherein each index member stores the elapsed playback time at the position thereof; and during the playback of the MP3 file, acquiring the elapsed playback time stored by the index member before a file pointer, and adding the time corresponding to the number of frames between the file pointer and the previous index member thereto to determine a real-time elapsed playback time, thus ensuring accuracy of the elapsed playback time, greatly increasing efficiency, ensuring the use of a user, and providing great convenience for the user. |
