This user interface device (2) detects a user operation on the basis of the motion of an object (5). The user interface device (2) is provided with an image pickup unit (3), a distance information generating unit (42), and a control unit (21). The image pickup unit picks up an image of the object, and generates a picked-up image. The distance information generating unit generates distance information indicating the distance to the object on the basis of the generated picked-up image. The control unit detects the user operation on the basis of the distance information generated by the distance information generating unit. The control unit detects, in the distance information, the user operation from a restricted area (R1) which is a part of an area (A1) where the image pickup unit is capable of picking up an image.
