PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL ELEMENT

PURPOSE:To facilitate production by constituting a titled element of a stage for solidifying acid on an LiNbXTa1-XO3 (0<=X<=1) substrate and a stage for projecting laser light to the substrate from the rear thereof. CONSTITUTION:Means consisting of the stage for solidifying the acid 2 on the LiNbXTa1-XO3 (0<=X<=1) substrate 1 and the means for projecting the laser light 3 to the substrate 1 from the rear thereof are used in this method. The acid which is coated on the LiNbO3 substrate and is then solidified is subjected to a proton exchange treatment by projecting the laser light thereto, by which a high-refractive index layer 5 is easily formed. The easy formation of arbitrary patterns is enabled as a stage for forming a protective mask by using a photoprocess is eliminated. Provision of a transverse distribution to the depth by utilizing the gauss distribution of the laser light is also possible.
