METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A FILAMENT WOUND ARTICLE

Method of making a tapered filament-wound article, e.g. an airfoil blade for wind turbines, involves the use of a tapered former on which are defined a middle station and two end stations of which the first station has greater girth than the third. Filament band material is wound continuously along the full length of the former until the middle station is covered to desired thickness, but portions of the first station remain uncovered. Further winding is done between the middle station and the first station until the latter is covered to desired thickness.
