PURPOSE:To provide an even and uniform coated layer on a continuous belt- shaped substrate with a hydrophobic surface by carrying out hydrophilic treatment on the substrate surface preliminarily, and then pre-wetting said surface and applying aqueous coating fluid before said surface is not dried yet. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophilic treatment such as corona treatment 5 or the like is carried out on the surface of a substrate 2 when aqueous coating fluid is applied to a continuous belt-shaped substrate 2 with a hydrophobic surface travelling continuously at high speed such as a photographic sensitized material or the like. Immediately after that, the surface of the substrate 2 is pre-wetted with a liquid such as city water or the like by means of a pre-wetting device 6 of ultrasonic type, vapor type or the like. Then, aqueous coating fluid 1 such as sensitized emulsifier or the like is applied before said liquid is dried up. An even and uniform coated layer is formed on the substrate of a hydrophobic rough surface of large surface roughness is formed by said process to increase producitivity and lower the running cost. |
