PURPOSE:To convert waste oil into a powdery substance so as to be easily discarded, by adding water or an alkaline solution to the waste oil, and then incorporating quick lime therein with stirring. CONSTITUTION:Water is added to a waste oil such as an animal or plant oil, a mineral oil, etc., and an excess of quick lime is added thereto with vigorous stirring. As a result, the quick lime reacts with the water to give slaked lime, and this slaked lime adsorbs the waste oil and, at the same time, it reacts with carbon dioxide gas in the air and is solidified. By the continuous stirring throughout the reaction, the final product can take a powder form. Since the oil has been swallowed up in the lime, discard of the powder causes no environmental pollution problem. In the case where the waste oil is an animal or plant oil such as a food oil, the reaction can be performed easily by saponifying the oil with an alkaline solution before quick lime is incorporated. In order to further accelerate the reaction, the walls of the reaction tank are made to be of a double-wall structure having heat-insulating properties. |
